For the last couple years, I have been desperately looking for answers, solutions and what not to improve my work ethics. I mean, who wouldn’t want to work better and perform better, right? I was getting frustrated and over being frustrated to why I under perform so badly and watching others work ethic seem so ”perfect” , I have to be honest I felt like a huge failure.
I wanted to know so badly, what others were doing differently. I wanted what they got! If you must know, I didn’t get to know their ‘secret sauce”. With many failures and tweaking and praying to god to get me out of this rut that seemed forever, to get my act together.
What I have learned is, you need to do YOU!! Stop looking what others are doing and focus on your own journey. #duhh
Accepting your own journey and follow your own rules and find out what works perfect for you! Makes the ride so much fun!
It seems a no-brainer, but for some reason we miss this message!
So, here are my top 5 things I have learned when it comes to working smarter
One of the things that is quite obvious but may get overlooked, is the fact you have to plan your work. Using a good planner and a to do list for your work and household related comes in handy. Whenever I have something planned, it is very easy for me to know what my next plan is and the list gets ticked off faster. My only mistake I am making (and you probably do too) is analysing and planning for far too long. I love planning but spending my most precious hour to only planning, is no near to working smarter. something i have to work on.
2. Be prepared
This is another thing that is yet so obvious, but having spend so much in that cloud of disorganized and failure– my brain didn’t get it. Once I finally understood why my work was under performing and suffering – I took the time to prepare my work. Coming to a job, career, project or whatever and not have anything prepared takes so much time off in something that you could’ve spent on the actual work.Whenever I work on my blog, I have my planner right on my desk and my to do list + a timer, and whenever I work on our home – I have my project planner and supplies ready for the next day. Doing this way has changed things drastically and made life so much easier and getting things done much faster.
3. To Do List
I’m not sure where I could’ve been without my To Do List, but It’s my best assistant-sidekick friend I could ever ask for! Writing everything down what I need to do, eliminate my confusion and procrastination. With bigger tasks I chunk them down in bite size and work my way down until it’s completed. It’s a must essential and one of my best way of working smarter.
4. Eating that frog!
Yep, one of my biggest mistakes is not eating that frog! One of the reasons why I was doing such a lousy job in almost every aspect of my life, is the fact I deliberately avoided the most important thing I knew that needed taken care of, but yet once again I took the ”easier road”. It took me forever to get to the #duhh-moment and start working on the ones that I knew would make a huge impact. Once I finally got over myself, I insanely noticed how good I felt about my work and about myself. I no longer had sleepless night and pressure.
5. Focus Mode
I have my planner ready and I am prepared, now it’s time focusing on work! Focus is the last dot that connects with the four above. Knowing how long I want to work on something, helps a lot. I set my timer ready on my phone and get to work! It feels so good when you are focused and you’ll notice the work you are doing is going well. Depending what work I am doing, I don’t tend to focus longer than 2 hours and work hard!
Back to you friend! What have you learned when it comes to working smarter?
