For quite some time, I have started a ritual every Sunday evening, to set new goals for the week, and one of the goals that always repeat in the list is: Get my Morning routine under my belt. I don’t know about you but my mornings are chaotic added with so many disasters, that one of us ( the kids and I) end up in tears.
But over time with tears, sweat and failures, I have learned to tweak and create a Morning routine that works for us and I know it will work for you too!
These 5 simple steps have helped make my morning routine successful. They are easy to apply and with effort and in time you get yourself a successful morning that does not involved tears (like ours).
Wake up early.
Yes, you’ve heard me! And you probably heard this so many times too, but it’s true! Waking up earlier changes everything about your morning. Whether you wake up 20 minutes before or an hour before, it is peaceful and less chaotic. This makes it so great to finish loading/unloading the dishes and not to mention you get to enjoy your breakfast and coffee/tea. I know whenever I wake up an hour or 2 before the kids, I am way more relaxed and at the end I am glad I woke up early, cause this way I have a little free time to do things that wouldn’t be possible with the kids around.
Make a list:
I cannot tell you (well i can) how important it is to make a list of things that needs to be done. If you want your morning to be successful, grab a pen and paper and write everything that you have to do that day and write until you are done. When? Honestly, it doesn’t really matter whether you do this the night before or in the morning(but I do recommend you make a list the night before, as you can always add something / or tweak in the morning) Whether you are a pen and paper gal or prefer digital apps, it doesn’t matter as long as you MAKE A LIST and work your way down until you’ve ticked off everything. See how you can successfully tick off your to do list.
Did you know, when you prepare the night before , you are saving an extra hour to your morning? It makes sense, since you already have layed out and prepared everything you need in the morning. You are also most likely get out of the house earlier or on time. Preparation is the key of a successful morning routine.
I have learned the hard way, when it comes to preparing everything I need for the day. With 1 child going to school full-time, I now always make sure his uniform are clean and ironed, his homework and backpack waiting at the door, his lunch prepped and stored in the fridge. I also make sure I know where the keys are and the little one next day clothes are ready too. I don’t prepare anything else in the morning, doing this way I have free time and the kids can play for a while in the morning.
If you have children that are up to the age of 2, make them do chore that are appropriate and do-able. This could impact your morning on a positive level that you feel you are doing good-by your kids. I have shared recently how we started doing a chore chart for our oldest, but now we also included our 2-year-old since he is in a stage where he copy’s everything what his big brother does. (great advantage to include him!) I make sure our oldest has done his bed , brushed his teeth, and dressed himself up. This is what makes it perfect for us, while he is doing the chores, I have free time or time for other important things. 10 Minutes Chores:
This is something new! Recently I have invented a new routine for myself to get my morning smoothly and productive by going through each room of the house and give it a 10 minutes makeover. It amazes me how much I actually can get it done in 10 minutes. Tidying the bed, pick up dirty clothes, leave the windows open and quickly vacuum the place. Also whenever I am in the bathroom while brushing teeth, I make sure i clean the toilet, wipe the sink and mirrors, Pick up the towels of the floors and I am done brushing my teeth! Phew and all that in 10 minutes. This of course gives me plenty time of relaxation and let me have a down time during lunch time to watch my Agatha Christie’s Miss Marble recordings ;).
