We made a promise last year to get our finances and bills sorted. That promised was made 31 December 2013.How have we done so far? I must say pretty alright!
Although I must admit the first 3 month were bit of hiccups, but on month 3 we were getting things under the control and not once missed a payment!
If you are disorganized and are desperately in need for a change.
Keep continue reading:), as I’ll walk you through a simple steps to get you organized as soon as possible!
- Gather all the Bills
To be able keep up everything, of course you need to have everything in order. So gather all your bills papers (probaly laying everywhere;), I am not judging ours were everywhere) and go through them one by one.
2 Write it down
After finding all your papers and going through them one by one. It’s time to write on a different piece of paper and write their due date. This will connect on step 4!
”Ok, Yasmina I got everything done, what about the papers?” Well, I am glad you asked! The next step is to set up your very own filing system that makes sense to you and works for you!
There are two ways you can go for.
A. File them by subject
B. File them by month ( which gives you 12 folders)
I’ve tried file them by subject, it has gone great , but I rather file them by month. (which gives us an easy view, and we know what was paid on certain month)
My best advice? Do what suits you the best and simplifies you;).
After a while there will be papers that can be shredd and tossed away, but I would say probaly 90% you want them to save it for couple years.
4.Track and Check
Now comes the fun part! So how do you track them and never miss an payment? Remember on step 2 I asked you to write down all the bills you had and their due date. Well, I have created a wonderful tracking list that has helped our family to keep up and never have that emberrased moments where we get a letter through that post of MISSED PAYMENT.
We continue using them, and can be used every year over and over again!!
Pretty simple right?
