As promised, I promised to show you how we use our dry erase calendar and hopefully you can takeaway something.
It’s pretty simple but yet so helpful for our family.
BUT, it hasn’t been so easy in the beginning, mainly due to our old habits by not writing anything down and just remembering it by head.(we all know that always fails)
because it’s just only my husband and I for now , who are writing it down.Once it get to the time where our children are old enough, we definitely make them to write theirs too.
If you haven’t read the first part of Why Dry erase Calender will Change your Life, I encourage you to read that first, and come back here.
So let’s start 🙂
Use color coding for each family member, so everyone will know exactly for whom it is for and who’s date is coming up. TIP: write a description where everyone knows who is who with color coding.(see my picture above, on top we refer back to the codes)
In our family calendar our colour coding : Green for Kids , Blue –Husband and Red- ME!
Whenever there is an important date to be remembered, don’t wait! Write it down straight away. In other word , make a habitt.
It might take a while , but you get there. Just remember the feeling of not being overwhelmed and hold on to it and keep going!
3.Involve the family
As mums we can’t do all this by ourself, so we need get our family members involved. As soon they have an appointment or activity going on, get them to write on dry erase board.
While my children are still too young to write, I make sure my husband writes his schedules so I can keep up and still remind him (or each other) for our important dates.
4. Hang it up
I think this is the most important part of everything! In order to start color coding, making this a new habit or getting your family members involved, it’s VERY important to hang it up where everyone can see it and spends time in that room. That could mean in the kitchen or entryway.
Take aways :
- Use color coding for easy glance
- make it a habit ; it might take a while but stick to it and stay consistent
- Get your family involved , make them responsible!
- Hang it up where your family can easily see it too.
If you were wondering what the pen I use, are these. (picture below)
I have a lot of dry erase pens before, and one thing i didnt like is the fact how much space it took when writing. Also the fact they dry up fast.
My husband accidently bought these, but I am so glad he bought them. They are seriously the best ! The tip isn’t too thick to take everything over.
